1/30/2024 0 Comments Traktor s4 mk2 custom knobs![]() ![]() Or if you have any success stories from the other method, I could at least try to map out my S4 to control Ableton and not run Traktor at all. This is an (5) piece kit. Like I said, I don't think that's possible based on the reading I've done. ![]() I would love to be able to use the EQ and effects on the S4 while having Ableton completely drive my audio output. I guess my main issue is when I select my S4 as the output source for Ableton, I don't get any controls from my S4 other than master volume. And my S4 would still be controlling Traktor (Ableton channels are the audio source) and those effects, EQ, loops, all the cool things Traktor does that Ableton doesn't do so well. I would then use the APC40 to kick off tracks (which are then fed into Traktor) and control Ableton effects. Could I in some way run Traktor and have it accept the A channel output from Ableton as a deck source? Same with B to B? Then I could map the crossfader on my S4 to the crossfade of Ableton giving me control of both software's crossfade at the same time. If I setup Ableton to have say 10 tracks, 5 of them I set to the A channel and 5 to B channel. I think my real desire is more of a pipe dream, but I'll lay this out and I would appreciate an opinion if you think this is possible. I've been doing a lot of searching and reading and your post comes closest to what I'm looking to do. I basically want to use an APC40 and a Kontrol S4 to control ableton. Hey guys, did either of you get this going? I am looking to try the same thing. This can save you a bunch of time not having to constantly map controls you wish to automate, and help to not interrupt your flow.Īnyway, i'll give it a try and report back! You just highlight the instrument rack and it instantly maps the exact parameters that you commonly use. This way while you are producing, you never have to stop to map your controller to record automation of a filter sweep. Once you have Ableton setup like this, you can make presets of your soft synths in Instrument Racks that have macro's predefined. If you've done everything correctly, you will now notice your custom controller name in the 6 pull downs for Instant Mappings. Now open Ableton and go back to the MIDI tab in preferences. (controls like: Cutoff, Resonance, Osc Pitch, modulation, Envelope settings, AMP Volume, etc.) *note* defining Macro 1 - 8 is very powerful as you can place your soft synths in instrument racks and define macros for commonly used controls. Open the UserConfiguration.txt you just copied in to the new controller directory and follow the template to specify what you want each knob/button/slider to control (You will need the MIDI CC data from each control on your controller to configure this file.) (make sure to copy and not move, as you may need a clean template later.)ĥ. ![]() Copy the UserConfiguration.txt file in to the new directory for your controller. Create a new directory under "User Remote Scripts" and name it what you want your controller named in Ableton.Ĥ. This is the template that you will use to create custom controller mappings for Ableton.ģ. You should see a UserConfiguration.txt file in this directory. Windows: /Users/ /AppData/Roaming/Ableton//Preferences/User Remote Scripts/Ģ. Mac: /Library/Preferences/Ableton//User Remote Scripts/ Go to the following directory on your computer: Here is a quick tip on how to add your own unsupported controller, or customize the way your controller behaves when using Instant Mappings:ġ. Unfortunately, Ableton's supported device list for Instant Mappings does not contain every possible controller. Please help.Īctually i think the issue is that Ableton has no support for "instant mapping" the S4. has anybody done this successfully?Īny tips? I'm sh_tting here. Hell, not even sure if what i'm attempting is even possible. Looking in the MIDI SYNC tab in Ableton there is no KONTROL S4 in the list. a big nothing.Īs i understand it, and maybe i missed the plot completely, what should happen is that adjusting a device, lets say the deck A volume on the S4, would map said volume knob to what ever aspect i has selected in Ableton, lets say a macro controller i'm running bass frequency through. I twiddle a knob or move a slider on the S4 and. Repeat this for each parameter you want assign. my screen looks the same.Īnyway, at that url it then says - All you have to do is click on the parameter you want to assign, then move the knob, button, key or fader on the midi controller. Using "shift" browse i switch my Traktor S4 into midi mode. ![]()
